5 Tips to Update Your Skincare For Cooler Weather

Fall air is dry and cool, which may result is your skin becoming dry and tight feeling. To avoid this, and keep your skin soft and glowing, read my tips for some simple changes to ensure your skin stays healthy.

1. Switch Up Your Cleanser

Making a simple switch from using a foaming gel cleanser twice a day to using a cream based cleanser at least once a day, will result in extra moisture in the skin. In the summer, while the skin is producing more oil, a gel cleanser is suitable to use twice per day. However, once the temperature drops, and the air is dry, substituting a cream cleanser for a gel cleanser is more suitable.  Using Replenish Cream Cleanser at night will leave your skin clean without stripping it of excess oil.

2. Boost Hydration With a Toner

Skin is made up of water and oils. When the skin is feeling tight and dry, you’ll need both water (hydration) as well as oil for the skin. By applying a hydrating toner, such as Restorative Mist or Nourishing Mist, immediatly after cleansing will supply your skin with plenty of hydration to keep it soft and moist.  Then once you apply a moisturizer on top, that hydration gets sealed into the skin.

3. Use a Heavier Moisturizer

To prevent moisture loss, consider using a heavier moisturizer or a face oil to provide extra moisture during cold months. Rose Glow Intensive Moisturizer is my go-to moisturizer in the cooler months. Made up of a combination of capuacu butter, nourishing oils and skin hydrators,  it provides both deep hydration and moisture for the skin.

If skin is extra dry, applying Radiant Face Oil on top of your moisturizer, or in place of, will provide the skin with potent skin nourishing oils to keep it soft and healthy.

4. Exfoliate to Help Your Moisturizer Penetrate Deeper

When skin gets flaky, or dry, gently exfoliating one to two times a week will get rid of the dead skin cells, assisting your moisturizer to penetrate deeper. Weekly exfoliation also helps to remove sun damage accumulation from the summer months. The key is to not over exfoliate, otherwise that can actually make the skin drier and damage the skin moisture barrier. Using Skin Revitalizing Scrub or Refining Lotion are gentle exfoliants to keep the skin soft and refined.

5. Protect Your Skin With SPF

One can think that since the sun is not as hot during the cooler months, then sunscreen isn’t necessary. However, that couldn’t be farther from the truth. Damaging UVA/UVB rays are out all year. On cloudy, rainy or sunny days, the same collagen damaging, pigment producing rays come through all year no matter the weather.  Be sure to apply sunscreen to your neck and face all year. My favorite is Sun Salutation.

By making a few simple changes in your skin care routine, you will help keep your skin hydrated, limit fine line formation, and be able to have a healthy glow all year long.
