Overindulge? Here’s How to Get Your Glow Back!

Had a little too much to drink the night before? Wake up feeling tired, groggy with tight, dull skin? Here are some solutions to help detoxify your system, nourish your skin and body cells and get your glow back.

First things first- Hydrate!

Preferably warm water. Better yet, warm water with lemon. Warm water is more hydrating to your cells than cold water. Lemon helps stimulate the liver, kicking it into detoxification mode. I like to start with 16oz. of warm water, followed by 16oz. warm lemon water before hitting the caffeine.

  • Throughout the day, drink detoxifying teas such as dandelion root tea,  milk thistle tea or a detox blend.
  • Fresh green juice, such a celery, spinach, kale, parsley, combined with some lemon and apple is  hydrating, detoxifying and alkalizing to the body.
  • Sip on some bone broth. Bone broth contains gut supporting amino acids, collagen and minerals.

Nourish with Gut Supporting Healthy Foods

Alcohol disrupts the gut flora so it’s real important to consume prebiotics and probiotics to help support the gut microbiome which supports the whole body.  Here is a list of some of my favorite morning-after foods.

  • Bitter greens such as dandelion leaves and arugula help support the liver for detoxification.
  • Beets another liver supporting food.
  • Sauerkraut, keifer and kimchi are probiotic, gut supporting superfoods that are high is nutrients and vitamins.
  • Sweet Potatoes are an excellent complex carbohydrate and are  high in antioxidant beta carotene. These help fill you up with fiber and nutrients.
  • Berries contain fiber, antioxidants and vitamins to replenish nutrients and are a good source of prebiotics.

Skin Care

Dull, dehydrated skin, puffy eyes. These are comon skin symptoms after indulging too much. Here is my go-to plan for getting your glow back!

  1. Glently cleanse, preferably with a milk or cream cleanser, such as Replenish Cream Cleanser.
  2. Use a hydrating mask, such as Hydrating Honey Mask or HydraFirm Mask (coming soon) to replenish water and moisture in the skin.
  3. Spritz your skin with a hydrating toner such as Nourishing Mist or Restorative Mist. This step hydrates and nourishes your skin with vitamins and nutrients, while helping the following skin care products to penetrate better.
  4. Hydrating Serum such as Skin Revival Serum or Youthful Glow Serum  will add much needed moisture, hydration, antioxidants and vitamins to help brighten and plump your skin.
  5. Eye Cream. Revive Eye Serum is a light eye cream that will help reduce puffy eyes, dark circles and fine lines.
  6. Moisturize. I perfer a nice rich cream such as Rose Glow Intensive Moisturizer, Skin Nourishing Lotion or Skin Restorative Cream for drier skin. These moisturizers contain oils rich in essential fatty acids, vitamins, antioxidants and peptides to plump, firm and moisturize the skin. For normal/ normal to dry skin,  Skin Vitality Cream is rich in antioxidants, nutrients and peptides.  For oily skin, Pure Radiance Lotion is light and hydrating.
  7. Top with a face oil to add a glow back to your skin. Face oils are great for adding on top of creams and serums to help seal all the goodness in and to add a glow. For dry skin – Radiant Face Oil, normal skin – Luminous Face Oil. For an oil free option suitable for ALL skin types ,  C- Rejuvenation Serum. If you are going to be outside at all use Sun Salutaion for sun protection instead of a face oil.
  8. Mist throughout the day with Nourishing Mist to continue to add moisture as needed.

Light Exercise

In my opinion, nothing lifts the fog better than fresh air and light exercise. So go get outside,  take some deep breaths and stimulate your lymphatic system with some light exercise.

In Conclusion

Even if you don’t feel your best when you wake up, taking these steps will help to enrich your body and skin so you can have a better, more enjoyable day.
